I am honored to serve as one of the local Ambassadors for the Publix Savannah's Women's Half Marathon & 5K taking place on April 2, 2016. I've often described Savannah as a runner's playground and I love it when folks from out of town come to run a race here. Hitting the pavement in your running shoes is the best way to take in all the countless sights Savannah has to offer.
This race falls in the prettiest time of the year in Savannah. Colorful azaleas, signaling the spring, are in full bloom and the weather is just absolutely perfect for running! Not to mention, this course is gorgeous and is one of the better routes for the half marathons in Savannah. The start leads you down Drayton Street, taking you through scenic parts of historic downtown. You then meander into one of the prettiest neighborhoods with a lot of character, Ardsley Park. Look for the huge oak trees providing a beautiful canopy down Washington Avenue. You'll make your way through another local favorite, Daffin Park, in which you'll run past historic Grayson Stadium, and then back to the finish line located right in the heart of Savannah's most iconic park, Forsyth Park. Like LITERALLY in the heart of Forsyth Park, right past the famous Forsyth fountain. It's pretty amazing!
Also - if you didn't already know - this race has the most amazing swag! Last year, runners got the coolest (and extremely practical) New Balance gym bag. I packed an entire weekend's trip to Big Sur, CA in this bag (and that's including my running gear and my regular outfits for the weekend). I hear this year's bag will be different, but just as awesome! I can't wait for the big reveal!! The top 3 winners get fabulous prizes that are locally made right here in Savannah. Last year's winners received customized leather cuffs designed by Satchel. The expo also had many local vendors with unique products, as well as the Publix Women's New Balance gear.
As a local Savannahian, I'm proud to tout my city as a running destination. I love snapping pictures along my training runs and almost discover something new every time I'm out and about - things that I miss out on while driving the same streets. I post these snapshots on my Instagram. Follow me at @cecilia_ontherun and check them out! I'd love for you to see how beautiful Savannah is! Also, Visit Savannah put together a new series titled "My Savannah" and I'm representing running in Savannah. Check it out below and see some of the pretty sights like Forsyth Park, as well as our historic McQueens Island Trail (not part of the Publix Women's course).

If you look up the idiom "on-the-run", it means to constantly travel or moving from place to place. Welcome to my life! I get asked the question - "Do you ever sleep?" at least once a week. The truth is - I am always on the run. My weeks are filled with work, training runs, dropping kids off to school and extra curricular activities, traveling out-of-town for races and soccer games, theatre rehearsals, civic duties - you name it. In addition to being an avid runner, I'm a happily married wife, mother of two, an actress, singer, a Fleet Feet CREW coach, and work full time as the Marketing Manager for Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. I love being on the run!
